The expansion of this large resort in a highly visible location near Banff and is exposed to a high degree of regulatory and public scrutiny. Defensible visual impact assessment and mitigation measures were key to the design and eventual approval of the project. One particular innovation was the testing of different camera settings to generate images with varying perspective effects. The variety of images were then field tested with key stakeholders to determine which image characteristics replicated natural on-site visual experiences with the greatest fidelity. The results of the study were used to affect building rooflines, glazing details, building materials and paint colours.
